In my years as a consultant and IT auditor, I have too often observed how one or more of the statements below have been applicable: a) Policies and other steering documents exist, but are not adhered to; b) Frameworks are purely driven by external requirements and kept to a minimum for regulatory compliance rather than used to reach business objectives; c) Management does not understand what benefits in terms of effectiveness, resilience and improved Business Intelligence can be gained by implementing effective Governance, Risk and Compliance frameworks.
I firmly believe that organizations that align and harmonize their governance and management procedures will see benefits such as more effective business processes, lower levels of serious incidents, higher ability to adapt to external as well as internal change.
